This is Miki Matsubara’s first single. Matsubara recorded “Midnight Door” when he was 19 years old, and two years earlier he had moved to Tokyo from Osaka and was singing at clubs in Tokyo. Tetsuji Hayashi created this song in the vein of new music influenced by Western music, which later came to be called city pop. In late 2020, the song’s popularity skyrocketed outside of Japan.
